No they are not. Like you stated, they only host abandonware. Xp does not classify yet as abandoned due to the fact a lot of people are still using it. So even though Microsoft no longer supports it, it is not yet considered abandonware.

That is because you do not need them.

You download the os iso and the key is already in there, preinstalled with opera and some of the latest up to date software for the OS to do basic tasks. Under system properties, it is registered to win world. Example, latest version of windows media player is installed, etc. Only thing 3rd party is a better browser than ie6 or lower. (Typically opera it seems) Otherwise, everything is stock. The homepage is modified to their page. But those were the only changes I could find.

As far as I am aware it is not illegal. You cannot pay microsoft for a key anymore, and there is no way it is taking away any money from microsoft at this stage.

In my case, I had keys for them so I did not need winworlds iso's. I found my original disks. AH the memories...Installing windows 98 was quite a fun experience. :)

That's cool to know. I'll try downloading Windows 2000 SP1 and SP4 and putting it in a VM.

Their serials forum is not there anymore anyway.

Their administrator just said that they were going to return it once they remove all product keys related to modern OSes and programs due to a DMCA complaint. Also, their forums are littered with 9x and NT product keys anyway.

I placed Win2k on the VM and it runs amazing! I want to place this on the Dell Latitude. If Windows XP Pro has the same downgrade rights as other Windows versions, does that mean I can downgrade to Windows 2000 by burning this ISO to a DVD and installing it using any product key online, and it would still be legal because I have a Windows XP Pro COA?

Also, I went onto amirunningxp.com and I was surprised MS didn't add any 'Your running an even older version of Windows!'

I contacted MS and they said that I could use that ISO and a product key from somewhere and it would still be legal as long as I had that Windows XP Pro COA (which I do have) attached to the computer. So, I love Windows 2000 so far, but I can't get Chrome or my printer drivers working. Could anyone help me out with these problems? I heard that it is indeed possible to install Chrome 32 on 2000 with some program. There isn't any clear tutorial out there.
