Ripping Mpeg2 media DVD's to PC for storage, suggested software?

Hey everyone,

so yea I have a shoebox full of OLDD media DVD's that have family videos from 1987 - 2000

trying to find a program that can deal with removing the "in dvd menu's" and the mpeg2 format

On my computer I have VLC that doesn't seem to work correctly, so im asking some of the Windows Guru's if they can point me in the direction of some software that could help me with my quest of making these ancient videos into flash format

I usually use either Nero Recode or Nero Video (they're not free) for this purpose but why isn't VLC Player working?

Open VLC player and select Media, Convert/Save.

Select Disc and specify the disc drive. Make sure the box for "no disc menus" is checked.

In the Convert/Save option at the bottom of the dialogue box, select Convert.

Set the format you wish under Profile.

Specify the name and destination for the file.

Click on Start.

Point well taken.

That just came up in the Vista forum and I looked at that rule. I wasn't banned or chastised. I don't think it is intended that one cannot mention the use of legal software if the problem can't be solved using Windows functions. If one suggests using software that strips copy protection from a protected disc, I think that rule would apply. There are lots of problems brought up in the Windows forums that, technically, aren't related to operating system problems and are best posted somewhere more applicable.

It's still a slippery slope. There's mention made of using other software throughout the Windows forums.

I don't have any intention of violating forum rules.
