Roaming Icons

A few weeks ago, I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. It seems to run great but for some reason I have two desktop Icoms that will not stay put.

One is; "Homegroup" and the other is; "McAfee Security Center"

Every morning when I fire my computer up both Icons relocate themselves twords the bottom left of the desktop screen. I move them where I want them with no problem. The "Homegroup" Icom will stay put where I moved it to until the next morning when I fire the computer again but the "McAfee Secrrity Center" Icon may relocate itself as much as twice a day. I found that if a update is received during the day for McAfee that is when that Icon moves itself.

So WHY the roaming Icoms? Never had that problem with any other OS system. Any fix to "nail" it where I put it?

One other question. I'd like to delete the "Homegroup" Icon. It's kinda stupid anyway.. Can't delete it. Any way I can?

Right click on the desktop, and then check the option "sort by > name" and "view > auto arrange icons" . It may stop the moving.

BTW, almost all the experts here are against using McAffe. It is an widely noticed phenomena that it causes troubles much, rather than helping the user. To get the better one, use either Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast Freeware, both are free to use.

Does the "Microsoft Security Essentials" auto update your computer or must you remember to get your own?

To tell you the truth, McAfee came free with my AT&T DSL system and I have not had any problems with it until I upgraded to Windows 7 and the roaming Icon.

Thanks for your help, Arc

MSE will check for updates every 24 hours and the PC must be on for this to occur.
You cannot schedule updates, but you can manually update anytime.

MSE does have a auto update, (recommended). My method is to check for updates manually every time I start my computer and then check several times a day. The bad boys and girls create virus and such by the thousands every day. You can set it to auto update and still use the on demand manual method at the same time. I to have read the horror stories of McAffe and their are many.
