There's a hidden file called "my music" in the documents directory, which bizzarely can be navigated to via "my documents" or "documents" depending upon the situation.

I need to make robocopy work on the c:\users\jack\Documents directory. Robocopy cannot get past the hidden "my music" shortcut because "access is denied". Please tell me if that shortcut is a junction. I cannot check it myself because I already deleted it.

A junction is displayed via an option on the dir command.

"dir /aL"

I don't see why Microsoft presumes I need a music directory.

Hoping somebody replies.

Regards,
Jack

I'm going to run with a robocopy option that skips junctions.

It's a junction, same on Win 8, 8.1 and 10. For instance, here is Win 10:

Code:
 Directory of C:\Users\rrkurtz\Documents

11/12/2015 10:39 PM <JUNCTION> My Music [C:\Users\rrkurtz\Music]
11/12/2015 10:39 PM <JUNCTION> My Pictures [C:\Users\rrkurtz\Pictures]
11/12/2015 10:39 PM <JUNCTION> My Videos [C:\Users\rrkurtz\Videos]
               0 File(s) 0 bytes
               3 Dir(s) 167,011,282,944 bytes free

Using /X in robocopy as you said you were going to do should resolve the problem.
