My computer wouldn't wake from sleep mode a few days ago so I hard rebooted it. When it booted I no longer had internet access.

My local area connection was listed as an unidentified network with no network access. I used the troubleshoot tool on the connection and it returned "the router does not have a valid IP configuration". I could not change the network from public to home/private.

I am able to connect to the internet using the same router and cable on this laptop. The wireless is also working fine.

I have tried:
disabling and enabling the network adaptor, DHCP and the local connection
updating the network card drivers
disabling ipv6 in local connection
Resetting the router to factory settings
I disabling bonjour (I do not have and have never installed mcafee)
clearing the TCP/IP stack with netsh int ip reset
using ipconfig /release /flushdns /renew
system restoring to before the issue occurred
doing a clean install of windows (it saved my old files under windows.old - I assume this is still a clean install)

I am running windows 7 home premium 64, my network card is an Intel 82567LF-2 Gigabit, the router is a Thomson TG782T and I am using Bigpond ADSL2+.

It's been a couple of days and I'm well out of my depth. I didn't expect the issue to continue after a clean install. Any help would be really appreciated. Attached is the ipconfig I get. View attachment 288972

If you could attach your ipconfig please because I can't see it :(

This can help us determine possible causes

Josh :)

Disconnect network cable from desktop and put in laptop. Be sure the laptop is NOT connected wirelessly! Does that work and you can access internet? If so networkcable is fine and connected fine in router.

Connect it in desktop again as usual.

BTW ipconfig output showed me tcp/ip is working. LAN adapater is working (driver is most likely fine).

Only problem so far.... DHCP can't get an ip address from router

Do you know the ip address of your router? If not do ipconfig on working laptop and look at "default gateway" line. Give me that address please

I don't think it's a problem with the connection, cable or the router because I've been posting using the ethernet on this laptop. :o I wasn't using ipconfig /all. I've attached the results.

Have you checked for recent drivers on the ethernet NIC or a firmware update for your router? If you did a clean install these should be the culprits in my opinion.

Just as a precaution, disable any firewall applications that may be installed as they can block DHCP offers

Josh :)

looks all fine to me.
Is service "DHCP-client" started, and is service "DNS server" started?. You can check by running services.msc
if they are not running: "Network Store Interface Service" is running? If they are not running try to start them manually there and post error message

All services described above have startup type "automatic"?

Sorry about the delayed response, I work weekends.
"DHCP-client", "DNS server" and "Network Store Interface Service" are running. The first two are set to automatic and Network Store Interface Service is manual.

I downloaded and updated to the latest drivers. I ran the diagnostic that the came with the ethernet network connection and it said it failed the "loopback test". I tried pinging 127.0.0.1 and it worked. Is this indicative of hardware failure?
