Solved Router with good ACL functionaility

Hi,

I'm looking for a router for a home network; Needs

1. Wireless, N series
2. 4 gigabit LAN ports + WAN
3. Good ACL configuration functionality that allows me to block specific services based on multiple schedules (each rule can have a separate schedule)
4. Good traffic collection logging such that I can query the router and account for inbound and outbound INTERNET traffic from each client on the network.

If the last one is not available, can anyone recommend a program that can monitor INTERNET traffic by client (not LAN traffic)

If I could implement rules that allow me to limit downloads per day per client, with a total monthly quota, that resets on a monthly basis, that would be an added bonus.

Needs to be available in Melbourne, Australia.

I currently have a Netgear WNR3500. Very poor management tools.

No, I dont think Cicso are really into consumer products. There was nothing in their product range that I could see that would fill my needs. The closest may be the 806 series. I did a search for availability of the cisco products around me but there really wasn't much.

The difficulty may be that many manufacturers don't specify in the data sheets or specifications that the broadband router supports multiple schedules. Which doesn't help.

You may need to look at 3rd-party firmware such as DD-WRT or Tomato to get all the functionality you want. The router may need to be replaced to utilize all the features.

For the type of control you are wanting that's probably what you need. Most SOHO routers have simple web interfaces with very little control or configuration. I'm sure that they could have better functionality but that's why they are so cheap.

I agree. DD-WRT might offer more functionality.

Well, not having much luck. I've looked at Cisco, Asus, Netgear, LinkSys, Tp-Link, 3Com and D-Link and there does not appear to be a single router model that supports everything I need. (Broadband/Cable, Gigabit LAN, Wireless repeating, Syslog, multiple schedules, DHCP, N-Series WAN).

D-Link was the closest with the DIR-655, but they don't support wireless repeating. And I have a access point down the far end of the house.

If I stay with netgear I have no syslog and no scheduling.

3Com donb't seem to have anything at SOHO level that supports gigabit. All 10/100, and only two broadband products in all.

ASUS appeared also to be missing the repeating functionality.

If I could find one with repeating and multiple schedules I guess I could live without the syslog and continue to manually email logs.

Any ideas?

You can get all of that out of Cisco but you'd likely spend a fortune. You are wanting advanced features out of basic SOHO routers and it will never happen.
