ive been playing with this damn program for days now.
long story short. ive got a custom os running on a virtual machine rite now. but nothing i asked for happened. internet explorer, not removed as requested.... no componets removed, no services disabled. i dont get it. i went through each step and made an iso at the end.

im not sure what details i can provide to help here. any light shred would be appreciated.

What kind of custom OS? Where did you get it and what version is it?

What do you need a lighter version for?

You cannot trim Win7 to be lighter than it is as it is already the lightest Windows ever. All services that aren't absolutely needed at startup are set on Manual fast-triggers. If you remove any you will have unintended consequences. If your GPU cannot run aero it won't be turned on.

For low resource machines the only old-school trims that maintain are to edit Visual Effects of animation, sliding, fading and dragging intact.

Upgrading hardware is the way to go. Max out your RAM, then if you want better performance upgrade your processor and/or mobo. Or buy any new computer for only slighter extra cost. The weekly Sunday ad $350 special is more than needed for most users once you Clean up factory bloatware.
Gamers should look at the blazingly fast new core I5's or I7's.

I believe he is using Rockers Team Mod'ed OS. Pretty sure but want to make sure before telling him we cant support it because it is mod'ed.

Hi Ken -

Yes, now I recall that from the early first year of beta. Some of us here also experimented with Vliting Win7 to see if it could yield better performance. All of this was still using XP- and early Vista-think which the RTM trumped in spades.

It was concluded that the only benefit of trimming would be for size on netbooks, but I've since heard no demand for even that.

There was no performance yield whatsoever, and plenty of unintended consequences e.g. turning off networking services because one doesn't use wireless.

I remember Zidane and others attempts. That seems like a long time ago grin.

NO... and NO....lol. ive got a decent machine. i7 950, 12gb tripple channel ram, raedonHD 5800, sata 3 SSD, and sata 3 HHD. it runs 7 no dramas. but there is a decent handfull of services i disable completely, as well a a fair share of random crap i would remove from win7 ( internet explorer, win media features, themes, images, etc, etc). While i your probaly right about it being the lighest thus far, i wouldnt say its trimmed down enough to my likings. having it as small as possible is ideal having a smaller SSD as the install drive.

thankyou for your thoughts.

If anybody else can shed any light on why i cant get RT seven lite to actually do its job, i would be stoked.

-cheers

Unfortunately we can only support legit Microsoft windows versions for we have no idea what was removed to make it light.

Site rules, sorry.

May I ask what trims have worked for you, and for what reason?

As it says in this old thread, we tried all of these here years ago and found absolutely no performance benefit since Win7 remains as light with service trims as without - although trimming for size on some netbooks was useful.
