Have an old xp desktop pc, that I use to run an old dos based program.

Can I somehow run the program on one of my other win7 pc's?
if so, any suggestions would be helpful.

Don't have win 8 or 10, could it be done a new laptop with either?

Thank you

I'll check it out and see if it will work for me.

Is there a version for win 10?

Thank you!

DOS programs will not run natively on a 64 bit OS so some kind of virtualized environment would be needed. XP Mode is only supported on Windows 7 Professional and above, not on Windows 8 or later. The easiest way, if it works, would be to run the DOS program under DosBox:
DOSBox, an x86 emulator with DOS

But not all DOS programs will run under DosBox.

Otherwise you would need to install a program such as VirtualPC, VirtualBox, or VMWare and install a compatible OS, such as XP, on that. You would need a legal copy of the OS.

If I buy a new laptop, to run an old, old program, just thought, why not W10 if I can get it to work, rather than something out of date,
as to lic, yes, even have a old vista never installed.

Thank you for any other helpful thoughts!

Compatibility with DOS programs hasn't been a priority since Windows 98 so there is no guarantee that Windows 10 will run them. Of course a 64 bit OS would have no chance. An older OS would have better compatibility.

Installed dosbox, as a test on pc win7home,64dell Duo , however the program needs to use com 1 for i/o.
device manager shows com1 is good at 9600 baud, Not quite sure how to check its is why program is not responding.
Thank you in advance for helping to everyone
