Running 2 GPUs - Possible?

Hello!

I bought an asus r9 270x to replace my old Connect 3d ati radeon 4890. My problem is I have two monitors that can be connected via vga only and the 270x has only one dvi port that can be used with a vga-to-dvi adapter. So, I have connected one monitor but I don't know what to do with the other one. As a result, I thought I should buy a vga-to-displayport adapter, but before doing this, I believed I should try to use both of them, not on crossfire.

What I am facing now is I have two cards installed on the pc, both of them ready to work with their drivers installed but they can't perform at the same time. Right now I am using the r9 270x and when I try to install the drivers of 4890, the device manager states that r9 270x has a problem so the os disabled it. If I install the drivers of r9 270x again, same thing happens to the 4890.

What can I do so they can work together?

I may be wrong, but I think two cards have to be setup with Crossfire/SLI to use both.

No, just that XFire is need to make them both operate.

AH okay, i thought they had to be the same with the exception of APU+GPU , learn something new everyday eh, so simply using the crossfire bridge would enable it to run fine?

I think there is software to install too, I've never used multiple GPUs.

Im running dual graphics apu+gpu, all thats required is the usual catalyst control centre and obviously the drivers

You need to setup your Video cards in CrossfireX/SLI to make sure you can use them both.(cards should be the same model)
Then install the drivers and Catalyst Control Centre from AMD.

You can't crossfire a 4890 with a R9 270X.....

You will not get them both to work reason being 2 different generations and 2 different ram types one being DDR3 and other DDR5

I didn't notice you were trying a 4850 and a R7 GPU besides you should be able to use 2 monitors with just the R7 and use the other as a backup

The pic on the Asus site shows DVI-I and DVI-D. IIRC only DVI-I has analog data.

D-Sub Output : Yes x 1 (via DVI to D-Sub adaptor x 1)
DVI Output : Yes x 2
HDMI Output : Yes x 1
Display Port : Yes x 1 (Regular DP)
HDCP Support : Yes

You have multi monitor support. Remove that 4850. You can not xfire different gpu's, they need to be the same model.

OP has 2 vga monitors. Gonna need a digital-analog adaptor of some kind.

By rights, with just the 270x installed (plus the drivers) the 4890 should be seen and usable.

You cant have two different versions of Cat drivers installed.

And as mentioned above, it is not possible to Crossfire the 4890 and 270X.

Since you only need to run to two monitors, I'd remove the 4890. For the VGA inputs on the monitors, simply purchase 2 DVI> VGA adapters. If all you have cable wise are VGA cables, you will need two DVI cables as well.

I'm pretty positive that AMD cards only support an analogue display via adapters from one of the DVI out puts, at least this has been the case for the AMD card's I've owned.

There are a variety of DVI ports which support different connections. The ATI 6800 series cards commonly have the following DVI connections:

one DL-DVI-I
one SL-DVI-D
DL is dual link which provides support for higher resolution like 2560x1600, SL is single link which doesn't support higher resolutions like 2560x1600, DVI is the connector form factor, I is integrated digital and analog support and D is digital only support

So only the first supports an analog connection using a simple adapter.

Found out that there is no adapter to transform vga to dvi-d because dvi-d is digital and vga is analog.
