I have two hard drives. Win 7 on the main and XP Pro on the secondary.

When I built this pc, I installed the xp drive, intact, as a backup. Since it was running with different hardware, it does not want to boot in this setup.

Is there a way to run my Office XP Pro in Win 7? I can't get the software to play nice when installing it on the 7 drive and am not familiar with installing software in compatability mode (or if that would even work).

Or...better yet...is there a way to get the xp drive to boot?

Thanks!

there's a solution to put the xp pro onto the new pc. check this link :
Redeloy/restore/migrate system to dissimilar hardware for Windows Server 2008/2003/2012 and Windows 8/XP/Vista/Windows 7 with EaseUS Todo Backup
But notice that the free latest edition of easus todo backup doesn't support this feature, it's available for the paid version. however, the older version, version 4.0 has this feature built-in for the free edition.
About the office xp pro inside 7, i haven't tried it myself but, i think you can try installing the software while in 'xp mode' of windows7. if you haven't enabled this, you can download the installer from microsoft website.

Now I'm confused...LOL!

Is there a way for me to install the drivers for this mobo on the XP hdd? In retrospect I guess I should have asked how to get the xp drive to boot in this system.

I set up a dual boot before, but both drives and OS's were set up with the same hardware, so it was easy.

Thanks! Remember that you have to have virtualization turned on in your bios first! LOL I was reading the "do this before downloading and installing" instructions. I think I already have it enabled, but I'm going to restart to be sure. I'll check in afterwards to let you know how everything goes.

If nothing helps, you can always run XP in virtual. That is nearly as good and in many respects better than a dual boot.

Here is an excellent tutorial by Shawn describing how to deal with VMware Player. He uses Win 8 as example but it is exactly the same for XP except that you have to select XP during the installation.

VMware Player - Install Windows 8

I have made a little video describing the advantages of such a setup. I also use Win 8 as example but it applies to any OS - I am also running 6 different Linux distros that way.
