I am going to ask a quick question while SURT is running on my laptop. I am very vulnerable on that pc as the updates have not updated since reinstall of win7 sp1 yesterday. Can I turn off my internet connection while that program is running? Thank you.

Since no one has offered any advice, I just kept truckin'. I downloaded and I ran the SURT package. I have been at all of this since 11 this morning and succeeded in downloading 148 windows security updates. I was told after reinstalling sp1 there would be around 200 but the windows update menu indicated that 68 were "recommended" not important. That would bring the number to 196. I think I will just not worry about those 68 as they are not "important". Hope I am back in safe territory.

This is a VOLUNTEER forum - and as such, most of the helpers have other things to do most of the time.
If you want/need instant response, you should be prepared to pay for it.

SURT takes around 15 minutes to run on a decently-specified system - but can take a lot longer under certain circumstances.
The question really is - why are you running it in the first place?
There is NO NEED to run it unless you are experiencing problems with WU in the first place.

I do not expect instant answers and know that this is a volunteer forum. 2 days ago I posted and never heard back. Today I had waited a bit before my last post. I did the SURT download because I WAS having problems with win7 sp1 and windows updates. I had to do a factory restore as my system had become non-functional-Why? Haven't a notion as to WHY. Anyway factory restore took me to clean win7 but not sp1 so had to do that. At any rate, I took the time to do the surt thing because WU were not happening and SURT did it. It somehow worked its way thru the labyrinth of my system and I successfully downloaded 148 important updates and disregarded the 68 that were noted to be "recommended" not important. Thanks

Two day ago you posted with a Windows 10 problem and did not post the required information for the thread.

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/379311-win10-blocking-security-updates.html

Your post should of included this and if you are still having update problems it will still be needed.

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-...4840-windows-update-posting-instructions.html

As far as I'm concerned you can run SURT on your own computer as much as you want to but it should only be run if you are having a Windows Update problem and hopefully have been instructed to with the help of a knowledgeable person.

I will give Noel a stern talking to for be so slow with your problem.
If you are not having any updated problems please mark the thread solved.
