Russian alphabet extension found in Firefox

This FF extension is listed in Iobit uninstaller : Модуль блокування небезпечних веб-сайтів (4.5.3.8).
It is not listed in FF itself.
Two weeks ago there were 2 others but they have now disappeared.
Both Firefox itself and Iobit list 3 Kaspersky plug-ins : Content Blocker, Online Banking and Virtual Keyboard - all 4.5.3.8 as the Russion one.
Clearly it's something connected with KIS.
Everything seems to be working normally, don't think it's a threat.
Would it be safe to uninstall with Iobit or should I just leave it?
Thanks.

Hi, @rufford155:

I agree with scanning with at least MBAM, just to be safe.

As for IOBit products, if you search the internet about that company (especially re: theft of intellectual property and databases from another security software vendor), you will find many disturbing articles.
While this happened a few years back, I would not trust a company that steals from a competitor.
Their products are not held in high regard here or elsewhere.
<just sayin'>

Yes, Kaspersky (KAV/KIS/KTS) does include several browser extensions/plug-ins.
On my own systems (Win7 and Win10) running KIS 2016, the version is 4.6.3-7.
So I presume you may be running KAV/KIS/KTS 2015?

In any event, would trust Kaspersky before I would trust anything from IOBit.

HTH,

MM

I already ran MBAM and Adwcleaner. No problems found.
Yes I have KIS 2015 and it regularly runs a rootkit scan itself.
I think it's a glitch in Iobit, as I said there were 3 of them now only 1.
I think Iobit is the best uninstaller so will carry on using it.
I think it's safe to leave the russian thing but I'm not sure if removing it might cock up KIS.
What I also don't understand :
In FF as well as the 3 plug-ins quoted in Post #1, there are also 3 extensions : Dangerous Website Blocker, Safe Money and Virtual Keyboard.
So why 3 plug-ins AND 3 extensions which appear to be the same things?
All 3 extensions say they "could not be verified for use in FF - proceed with caution".
This is some problem with Kaspersky signatures and has been the case for quite a while now.
I have the latter 2 extensions disabled but Dangerous Website Blocker is enabled.
So maybe that's why it appears in Iobit, but don't know why in Russian !

Hi:

Kaspersky 2015 will be going EOS soon. 2016 is the current version (either MR0 16.0.0.614, or MR1 16.0.1.445). 2017 is already being beta-tested.

First thing I suggest would be a clean upgrade to the current version of Kaspersky (16.0.1.445).
Upgrades are free during your valid license period.
Instructions HERE; current versions available at global website HERE or at the KL product page in your country.

Basic process: Download, but do not run, the current KIS2016 installer > Have activation code handy (just in case) > Exit protection and uninstall from Windows Control Panel (keeping only activation info) > Reboot > Run version 2016 installer > activate (if needed) > update > reboot.

As for IOBit, I would not trust anything from that company or its software. I would trust Kaspersky and Malwarebytes 1000 times over IOBit, based on the latter's shady track record.

Cheers,
MM

OK, thanks for the advice.
But I will not be upgrading as I have just purchased a new 8.1 laptop (do not want 10).
So, yes, I will be uninstalling on this one and then installing 2016 on the new one.
I have a 3-PC licence but the other 2 are already used.
