What's up?!

Lately, I feel like taking on some issues with things and right now, my motherboard.

It does not want to go to sleep and come out of it! I've always had to put it to Hibernate if I want to put it to a low power mode, but that is so last decade. I've set my motherboard's jumpers accordingly to what the USB keyboard settings and USB wake up should be and set the power setting in BIOS to S3 and nothing works. Windows will go to sleep, but it doesn't resume, the CPU fan is running but it's at low RPM, the hard drive is running, the case fans are running, there's no display or anything. It's getting me a little annoyed. I have to kill power to it altogether and drain out any last energy out then restart. Windows says it didn't shut down properly and gives the boot options.

I have the latest display drivers from ATI, and Windows is up to date.

I'm thinking that since I installed Windows and didn't set the BIOS to S3 mode before installing, it's not going to do so....

Thanks for reading! :D

Hi,

In an elevated command prompt, try the following:

powercfg -energy

Now browse to C:\Windows\system32\energy-report.html.

Copy and paste the contents here, and lets have a look at whether S3 is supported.

Regards,
Golden

What I outlined in red to me at least shows sleep is not working or going to with settings as they are now.
Smiley faces in the report are strange.

Try the one I posted for Brinks tutorial. See if it shows what Sleep you can use.

I also found this tutorial by Brink. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/153968-sleep-states-see-available-sleep-states.html

Here's How:
1. Open a command prompt.

In the command prompt, type in the command below and press enter.
powercfg -a

3. You will now get a report of the available sleep states on the system.

It shows what Sleep states are available on your system.

Tutorial also explains what each Sleep state does.

Mike
Hmm, I did that and the the result was basically what the image attached shows. S3 is available, S1 and S2 are apparently not supported by the firmware.

+1 Hops. Yep powercfg -a to turn off, and then again powercfg -a to turn back on again.

Post the screenshot of the Window as suggested by Hopalong.

I'm no expert on this but did you read thru this tutorial?

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/22867-windows-does-not-start-after-sleep.html

I'll see what else I can find that may help until Golden or someone with more expertise shows up. ;)

Try to help what I can.
Mike

Also here under Step 5 is suggested settings for Windows it self for different sleep modes.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/778-power-plan-settings-change.html

1-4 is the how steps to set them.
I would double check to make sure everything is set properly in Windows.
As I outlined in my Post #5 in red it appears something is turned off or disabled that should be On or Enabled.
So it would appear to me anyway.

Sleep isn't enabled reading though your Post #4. Or at least SOME of the hardware isn't recognizing Sleep mode.
So it stays half asleep and half awake. Not very technical but the best description I can think of.

Need better help than I can provide.
I'll make a post over on the VIP for more help. I posted.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

Hi Coke Robot. Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Mouse\Hardware tab\Properties\Power Management tab, put a check mark in the box shown it the snip. That sould allow you mouse or keyboard, if USB, to wake the computer at least. Make sure your BIOS allows the S3 power state.
