Is it safe to use several windows tweaking tools? I mean something like Advanced System Care, Tweaknow 2010 and CCleaner? I ask because each program seems to find things the other programs do not. I am afraid that if I use Advanced System Care followed by Tweaknow for example , how do I restore if something goes wrong? Should I just stick with one ? Thanks

Personally, I would just stick with CCleaner... Too often, tweaking tools cause more problems than they resolve.. ;)

+1. It may not even be safe to use one tweaking tool, nevermind several. :)

It's better to go to a site with tips that explains what each service or registry tweak does and what happens if you use/disable it. If you make changes one at a time it's a lot easier to figure out which one broke something. If you change 50 things in one shot, it's a gamble. I hope you have a backup image before taking the plunge. At least backup your registry with ERUNT freebie.

ERUNT and NTREGOPT

I have had no problems with Advanced System Care nor CCleaner.I have used them both for more than six months already . I use Advance System Care first because that Program has a restore function for registry cleaning. I have not tried Tweaknow 2010 yet. I am afraid to run one after another.

sportflyer and stillfreefilms illustrate my "lemon theory" of user experience. If you bought a Pinto and never had a problem, you don't see what the fuss is about. If your gas tank exploded.... well, it's a sadder story. :(

I have always thought it best to find a specific tool to correct a known problem rather than run tweaking tools to look for a problem I may or may not have.

Windows 7 does an excellent job of setting itself up to make the best of your particular system out of the box.

I do use CCleaner for tidying up after un-installs and other major changes but only for those that I know exactly what needs to be done

Systems I work with often need to be available 24/7 when I may not be around to fix them straight away. I've found that the systems that are not tweaked beyond what has to be done tend to operate much more reliably

Don't get me wrong. I wasn't criticizing you. I'm only saying that a product is "good" or "bad" to someone depending on their experience. Even if the objective data showed a high percentage of a model car, or anything else, was a "lemon," if someone had good luck with it, they liked it.

Even though Paragon Drive Backup hosed my Vista MBR I thought it was great as long as I stayed away from the back up capsule gimmick. Until it would not recognize my raid controller on a new machine. I had to move to Macrium. Now I don't remember why I was so enthusiastic about Paragon before! :)

Thanks for all the comments. I check the Registry items the program wants to clear before I execute them.

Good advice.

this is by far a good thing to have and use>> sysinternals suite

You are right on target. Sysinternals is good.

+1 Spot on, Nigel.

Do not use tune up utilities with Win 7. Win 7 is not XP and the old XP knowledge does not apply.

Ditto; and I rarely use the registry cleaner. I use it only when I have installed something and delete only the keys that I know pertained to the uninstalled software.
