Got two identical HDDs and want to make a RAID 1 out of them for storage. Also have a Z170-E MOBO. I can't figure out a way to do a RAID 1 out of the 2 HDDs without also screwing up my seven install on an SSD. Advice?

This is just a registry edit. You can read about that here: Moving from AHCI to Raid - Working Hard In ITWorking Hard In IT

I don't think you need to change msconfig for safe mode. I don't even know why you'd want to boot in safe mode at all. Once you change the registry values for RAID, you then power off, reboot directly into BIOS and change to RAID. The thing is I'm sure the RAID driver needs to be installed prior to even changing the registry and rebooting into BIOS.

I'd do a full disk clone before you do this. You do run the potential of not having a bootable system if something goes wrong.

Well I was planning on doing it via MB.
