RE: Outlook 2007

I have two user accounts, one for me, and one for my wife. I want both of us to access the same Outlook.pst file and, when checking messages, save to that same file.

Sharing the file seems to be no problem. I have the data file settings reading from a PST file I have in the ‘Public’ folders.

However, I cannot send and receive on both accounts. One (mine) works both send and receive. The other, will only receive. I have triple checked the settings and deleted and re-entered her settings. I get the same results every time.

I think the problem may lie in having moved the apps folder. I have both account settings on a second hard drive.
In addition, I checked the registry to confirm the settings were accepted.

ON A SIDE NOTE: Where are the e-mail account settings stored?

So, the question is ... how can I have two separate user accounts sending and receiving on the same Outlook file?

Thanks.

Joe

Joe, are you getting an error when trying to send from "the other" account or it is just not sending anything?
Besides the Account setup, did you make sure the Send/Receive options under Options -> Mail Setup -> Send/Receive include the account in the send / receive group?
I am via an Exchange Server right now so I can't do any tests. That is what I can think of.

I am getting an error. I'm sorry, I can post the exact error text because I am at work right now. It is trying to send - it just times out. If I open the progress/detail window 'receive' is checked okay. 'Send' give me a time out error.

Uhn, usually when I got those errors was because I had some setting wrong (like encryption or the three letters I can't remember now...). But you covered that.
Do you have another ISP you could use as your outbound server just to test it?

I was thinking of that too. The e-mail account I am using is GMX. I am trying to access the e-mail on POP3. They offer IMAP, that didn't work either.

I have AT&T (which uses Yahoo! mail) as my ISP. Switching over to checking the Yahoo! account doesn't help. I get the same result. Works with one account, not with the other - and only on send.

It's confusing because it was working fine before the Windows 7/Office 2007 install. The only difference is the multiple accounts and Windows 7/Office 2007 as OS/software.

I have the settings in a text file and all I do is copy/paste. Just to make sure nothing had changed, I confirmed with online help.

Can it be different firewall settings for the 2 user accounts? Try disabling it

Follow-up: I just remembered - I switched off the firewall and anti-virus. That did not correct the problem either.

The GMX tech support forum suggests, "Change your Smtp server from 25 to 587, this usually does the trick" and "For port 25 or 587 then you need TLS"

I just found this at the Microsoft Office website:

Send/Receive settings (.srs)

Windows Vista drive:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook
Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HP100669141033.aspx
I wonder if that is the account settings file (username/password)?

I also found this...

also these from Microsoft...

Somewhere in those links is an answer. I'll try this at home tonight and post back the results.

FOLLOW-UP

Changing the SMTP from 25 to 587 seemed to do the trick. I'll post more after I have tested it for a few days.
