Hi.

In XP you could have 2 PC's both logged onto each with the same username and password and access resources on each no problems. With W7 I am getting a username and password prompt when I should not require it.

I have some recollection of a registry entry that allows this, something about a token or something. Could someone recall it and send it to me?

The first time you connect to another machine, eg through drives mappings, you will need to be authenticated. Subsequent attempts might not be neccessary.

What I am saying is that I have a username tim with password Passw0rd on both computers. I *am* using the right username and password, but it won't accept it. With XP, if the pc trying to connect to the destination PC was logged on using a valid matching username and password as an account on the destination PC, authentication occurred without issue.

With W7, No matter what U/N I use, it won't allow me to connect.

Have you tired adding in the username into the permission/security tab?
Is your Homegroup's advance setting for file and printer sharing turned ON?
And the other i can think of is the machine's setting of allow others to connect to it.

I'm no xp right now so i cannot be precise in my wording.

AEM, no offense but I think you are on the wrong track here. There is already a username and password with the appropriate rights. There is a behaviour difference between xp and 7 and as such a setting needs to be changed. My recollection was it was a registry key to do with security tokens.

I was going by the prompt for username and password. I never have issues connecting between machines ever! if it askes for a password, i entered it and i'm in. Have never used any registry tweaks.

yeah, i'm not sure of any registry "tweeks" that would do this... especially on xp.

sounds like simple file sharing or that one of the machines is not on the "home" profile.

No the reg tweaks would be done on W7. This is a problem with auth between 2 Windows 7 PC's. I was saying that in XP it worked like x, and w7 like Y. I apologize if I was unclear.
