Hopefully the new controller on the 840, will be just as reliable as the one on the 830.

The lower than most power consumption will be welcomed in laptops. I've used the 830 in my laptop and had no issues.

Performance wise, I don't believe that there's much difference between the major brands in everyday use. Certainly, in benchmarks there's 20-50 MB/s transfer differences; however, it would be hard differentiating between them, when starting the OS, opening applications, etc...

Well, it looks like Samsung is within striking distance of Sandforce based drives(on compressible data) on the Seq. Write speeds, which is amazing in my opinion. All other speeds look to be equally amazing......we'll see.

No question that Samsung is close or reached Sandforce level in performance; most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the 840 and other top of the line SSD drives. Based on the new SSD drive performance history in general, a six month waiting period is recommended prior to buying this one. It's unlikely that the first version will have no bugs...

I agree 100%. I am less interested in Seq Read/Write numbers than Random 4K Read/Write numbers. Also, I am excited about how much faster the 840 Pro is than the previous generation 830 drives...50-75% in some cases! If the reliability is on par with the 830 series, it is going to be a beast.

Agreed, that's quite of jump in performance. If it comes with the reliability of the 830 series, I am game...

I believe the 840 series you linked to is what is soon to be bulk drives. The regular 840 series will come in 120/250/500GB models and use TLC NAND. Performance is suppose to be on par with the current 830 series. I would be willing to bet we see either a 750GB or 1TB capacity in the plain 840 series, at a much lower price point. The 840 Pro, however, uses 21nm MLC NAND.
