Samsung DVD writer se-s084d cannot read blank dvd+r in Windows 7 x64

Hello All, I have two Lenovo s205 laptops both running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and I have a Samsung DVD writer se-s084d (firmware is TS02).


In one of the laptops the blank DVD+R disks are not recognised (from Sony and Verbatim) but it does recognise CDs and can play DVDs too. The CD/DVD drivers seem to be all installed fine (using Control Panel, System, Device Manager). The other laptop works fine and can write to DVD+R and recognises the DVDs the first laptop cannot. Samsung say the device is DVD+R and Windows 7 compatible.


Does anyone have any suggestions on a possible fix? I have looked into the registry; and the upper and lowers filters do not exist at 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318.

Welcome to Seven Forums Chris.
I am guessing you have only one se-s084d and use it in both netbooks.
Does the DVD writer malfunction in all 3 USB ports on the one netbook? Try removing and reinstalling the drivers for the drive and try it in anther PC if available.

Thanks for your reply. I have tried all USB ports but the problem is common for all.

You're welcome. You can try uninstalling all USB drivers, reboot and let Windows Update get them back for you. Other the the steps I first posted I don't know what else to try.
Perhaps Lenovo support has some updated drivers. with lappies and netbooks the makers' drivers are usually better than from the hardware makers' sites. Laptops normally use modded drivers. Sorry I'm not more help.
