Samsung P2250 resolution and colour problems

I just got a new P2250 samsung syncmaster. I installed the drivers from the samsung website, the Windows 7 version, but I cant set the resolution above 1280x1024 and it has full HD, im sure my card can support the resolution (8600GT).
How can I fix this?
I have used a converter for the screen port (the blue jack thingy) because it came with the narrow one, and I have the wider port on my PC.

Also the screen colour is all orangy :S

okay, so it has the blue VGA in, and I used a converter to make it fit my DVI port
