Hi all, another pesky problem for the knowledge base!
Got a 64gb Sandisk Ultra 3.0 USB but it is not recognized by my comp. Plug it in, no sound, no light, no nothing. I’ve opened up disk management and checked diskpart but it’s not there. Tried it in every port in my tower, same result…nada. Any other stick works in any port no problem. No exclamation marks in device manager but I uninstalled the USB drivers and rebooted just in case. Zilch! It works in my Asus lappy so I used the HP format tool and tried NTFS and Fat32 but still no luck. All my drivers are up to date, no conflicts evident but I can’t even get it to show up anywhere to fault find…….. What the???
TIA

I've seen many fake USB drives.
I use h2testw to test it on the laptop. It writes a small file and read it to compare.
On a 64G it will take a lonnnnng time.

I don't think this is a fake stick, I bought it from a reputable vendor when USB 3 first came out and it has worked flawlessly up until now and as I said, it works OK in my other computer. It appears to be something conflicting in my comp but buggered if I know what

I'm a bit lost here, after rebooting it works then you format and it doesn't work anymore?
Have you tried formatting with Windows own tools?

Very happy with this buid.
I struggled a lot to find all compatible parts since I wanted an Intel 1151 based motherboard so to be able to install Windows 7.
I chose this case because it has amazing air flow, it's sturdy and looks good.
The case included 1x 200mm front and 1x 120mm back fans, I added 1x 200mm on the top and 1x120 bottom fans and modded the panels with black stockings for women s
Do you have USB3 ports in your computer? Also, do you have USB3 drivers installed in Windows 7? USB3 doesn't work natively in Windows 7; you have to have the drivers there for it to work.

Go into Device Manager, and look at the USB devices. See if there are USB3 devices listed, and if they are working correctly. You should be able to right-click on them and tell it to install the driver, if they aren't working correctly.

If you can't get USB3 working on your computer, you could purchase a USB3 controller card and install it in your computer.

To test the flash drive, create a Linux Live DVD and reboot to the DVD. Once you are in Linux, see if the flash drive works. If it is a good flash drive, and if there is nothing wrong with your computer hardware, then the drive will work in Linux.

To create a Linux Live DVD, go here: https://linuxmint.com/download.php

Select one of the links and download the ISO file. Then, in Windows, burn a DVD from the ISO file. That DVD will then be your Linux Live DVD.

Sorry for the confusion.......It will not work in my desktop at all. Can't get it recognised, format or write to it, although it has worked in the past.
Conversely, it will work perfectly in my laptop and used the laptop to format in both NTFS and Fat32, then retried it in my desktop but nothing still.

This is what I see in Device manager

It works in other comps so testing would not seem to be helpful, it's some gremlin in my comp I'm guessing.

Make a copy of anything you need from the flash drive and save it, you never know.
