Hello everyone, it's me again.

What type of GPU works well with sandybridge CPU's, if even there is such a thing.

Also, it turns out the ASUS Rampage III Extreme motherboard is incompatible with i7 2600k CPU socket. Meaning I need to get a different motherboard. What do are your opinions on Intel P67 motherboard, it works well and is built exclusively for sandybridge processors, i7 2600k.

Literally any GPU works with Sandy Bridge... or any other cpu you can think of. All a GPU has to do is fit the spec: PCI-e. The cpu pushing it is irrelevant.

the asus p8 overclocks better than most boards but some report it has some minor stability issues, what they are i have no idea.

the intel board i picked up doesn't overclock quite as well but is suppose to be a bit more stable. i can get 5.05 ghz out of my 2600 i went down to 4.5ghz after trying it i didn't feel comfy putting it that high on day 1.

the asus board will take it higher than that 5.1ghz

4.5ghz can be easily achieved on the stock cooler as well going higher you may want to look at a better cooling solution but it does it so well:)

Overclocking using offset voltage may cause instability; not while clocked up, but when the system is idle or doing little or no work, like youtube.

Manually setting voltage doesn't cause the stability issues, even if you're setting vcore for the same amount; however, going that route you can't take advantage of all the power savings... the multiplier will drop, but the voltage will remain constant.

I've tried it both ways... manually works great, but then again so does - offset @ 0.07. I'll keep using offset mode unless I start seeing this behavior... but so far so good.

But if you then stop playing games and wish to use the built-in Quick Sync of the integrated GPU to vastly accelerate your video encodes you can't. And only Z68 can switch off the power hungry GPU depending on the Virtu settings. Best of both worlds, so P67 is pointless.

"Vastly?"

Clearly, we disagree on what "vast" means. To me, vast means large... of great size. If you're suggesting that encoding is "vastly" superior on the Z68, then please, support that claim with links. The only thing I find is that they're essentially identical.

As for the Z68 using less power, that's also false.
The only drawback we found about the new Intel Z68 chipset is higher power consumption of the systems with it. Our tests showed that the platforms built around an older P67 chipset, which doesn’t give you access to the integrated graphics core, consume considerably less power.

Look at the conclusion - page 11. Its there. And this is a driver glitch for a new platform. It will be ironed out and performance will improve.

I'm sure the platform will improve... that was never in question. Hopefully Intel won't devote all their energy to X79. The point of all this back and forth though remains the same... and that's that while Z68 is a full feature board that can take advantage of the on die gpu, not everyone will want or need this, so P67 isn't "pointless".

I don't think I've ever had a board where I used all of its features... and I know I'm not alone. If someone finds a better deal on a P67 that has everything he needs and nothing he doesn't, then it's still a good buy.

You may need this option in the future, and you wouldn't be happy knowing that a Z68 option would give you what you wanted but you chose a more limited chipset.

The right platform for the right job.

Never mind that I have zero interest in encoding video, nor will I develop an interest in encoding video, but if for arguments sake I did, I would not pick Z68 to do the job. I'd get a hex-core AMD.
