Welcome to Seven Forums!

I think that Win 7 should be able to supply the driver for that one itself, or it should be available from Windows Update.

Are you going to be installing Win 7 to a machine with this board in it? I had no trouble doing this with an old MSI board of my wife's. Win 7 found the SATA drivers during the install with no problems at all. I didn't use any of the manufacturer's drivers at all, except for the chipset. Windows then updated them on it's own.

So, a SATA drive hooked to the ports will boot into Windows? If so, at least something is working. How did you determine that there were no drivers? Have you looked at Device Manager and looked at your drives? I can pretty much promise you that Windows has loaded some kind of driver, or the drives won't work properly. If there aren't any yellow triangles, you should be okay.

Check the driver tab for your drives, if there is no driver listed, click "Update Driver" and let Windows search online for one. The only possible SATA driver that might be hard for you to get for an older motherboard like yours would be a RAID driver. That probably won't be available from MS, and you'll have to get that one from the manufacturer. A normal SATA driver would have been installed when you installed Windows.

ah sorry im booting off an ide hdd "not sata" and the sata hdd is my storage hdd and yes i can see the hdd in device manager but that's it.

when i look at device manager the raid controller does not have a driver and when i click on update it looks and says that it could not find it and the gigabyte site does not have any drivers for this MB for win7.

damn this sucks lol

Gigabyte may have made the motherboard, but they didn't make the chipset. That board has the Via K8T800/VT8237R+ chipset on it and Via does have an updated driver for the SATA/RAID controller here,

just work your way through the dropdowns.

A RAID controller might be a problem because almost every manufacturer does something different with the implementation. For that reason, it's usually the manufacturer that supplies those drivers, and with an older motherboard, you take your chances whether they'll update it for Win 7, or not.

Just so that I understand, I should ask... You can see the SATA drive in Device Manager? Are you able to see the drive under Administrative tools >> Storage? You would need to use Admin tools to initialize the drive (partition, format). You won't be able to see the drive in Explorer until it's been initialized and been given a drive letter.

Are you trying to use the SATA ports for a RAID array? If you are, your motherboard may not support Win 7 for RAID, and there isn't a lot you can do about that, unless Gigabyte decides to make a RAID driver for it. Even if it can't support RAID, Windows should still support the SATA interfaces in IDE mode on the board without a driver from Gigabyte.

@stormy13. Just saw your post after I wrote this. Excellent. I didn't think VIA was doing anything with the older stuff anymore. They've been concentrating on the small, low power EPIA line for the past while, and I thought they'd pretty much ended support for everything else. I'm sure I can use something in that link to fix something frustrating at work. Thanks!

How is the SATA controller configured in the bios? If it is set to RAID the easiest solution would be to set it to IDE mode,

satamode.JPG

and then it shouldn't need any drivers. Also the slight benefit if any from running in RAID/SATA mode with a single drive isn't really worth the hassle.

the 1tb hdd's are externals

the os before was the same "win7" and yes it was usable but this was on another board.
but that one died...well i think it did >_>...

i was using the old pc when it suddenly went off and when it rebooted i was given a nice
warm cup of blue screen and from then on it never got past the windows log in.

during boot it would ask me if i wanted to boot normally or boot into some win7 fixer program....bot did not work so i gave up on it.

few days later i went to have another go with a new os on a new hdd but even tho it would load past the log in the pc would shut down right away and would not stay in windows for more then a few seconds so im assuming that the motherboard or some hardware is screwed.
