Solved Sata DVD drive driver problem?

Hi everyone!

1st time poster - I am hoping someone can help. Just bought the bits for a new computer the other day with these components:

Tenda W322P Wireless N PCI Adapter
Sony AD7240SGB 22X SATA OEM DVD RW Black
2 X Samsung 1TB Spinpoint F3 SATA II 7200RPM 32M
Microsoft Windows 7 Pro 64bit OEM
Kingston 4GB(2 X 2GB) DDR3-1333MHZ
ECS GTX 460 1G D5 2DVI/HDMI
Corsair HX-650 ATX Power Supply, 120mm fan
Asus M4A87TD-USB3 AMD3 4x DDR3/6x Sata Raid/Gigabit Lan
AMD Phenom II AM3 955 Black Edition (3.2Ghz) CPU

anyway - I built the thing - put in windows 7 install disc and it worked fine, until a couple of days ago.

Where upon the DVD drive disappeared from "my computer". It still appeared in device manager though with this error:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

I thought maybe the drive itself may be the problem, so I swapped it with another one I had from an older computer, and the same problem remains.

I tried plugging the drive into a different SATA port (from 3 to 4). Still no joy.

I thought perhaps the sata cable may be a problem, I swapped it for a different one and again no luck.

The drives are set to IDE within the BIOS.

I am struggling to understand what is going on.

Can anyone help me?

thanks for the reply. Sorry to sound a bit dumb. I had a look at the "change, add, or remove drive letter" page.

When I bring it up, it doesn't list the DVD drive here at all. I tried rescan disks with no success.

Was I supposed to do something different to this?

sorry try this option:ar: Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs
