SATA Hard Drive making weird noises

I was a defragmenting my hard drive while playing a game, suddenly my hard drive starts making weird noises. My windows got stuck and i was still able to play the game. So i restarted my computer with the button, BIOS loading longer then normal, so i taked a look at BIOS post message.

It said:
Auto Detecting SATA1: Samsung <harddrive number in system specs>
Auto Detecting SATA2: ATAPI CD-ROM

And when Auto Detecting SATA2 came up screen the hard drive starts making an weird noise. Then it loads to an black screen with a blinking text cursor.

Is it a kind of clunking sound ? Some times when you hard boot a drive the disk platters get damaged from the heads, sound like this is what has happened to your drive.

I am no expert but there are a few here who might be able to give you more info, but it reads to me like you have damaged your hard drive sorry man.

Yeah its an clunking sound, first the sound is normal, then it clunks. And after that it makes no sound anymore.

Have you tried changing the boot order?
Sorry I have a very slow connection and was not able to view the you-tube vid you posted.
Usually there is a key that you can press during POST (could be F8 for example) and this would allow you to change the first boot device without having to dive into the BIOS setup.

Sounds like the drive is failing if not already completely dead

what I would do is to use a linux boot cd to check if the drive can be accessed and backup any data you have on the drive.

Another option would be to check out the manufacturer and see if they produce a bootable cd test tool for your drive.

Third option is BEST FREE Partition Manager Software for Windows supports all 32-bit & 64 bit Windows No-server OS. which may allow you to transfer you data to another drive

I am downloading an bootable drive checker right now. If that doesn't work i try Samsung Diagnostic Tools. or else gameover.

One thing you could try if it's possible is to physically re-locate the drive to a working system and see if any of the free recovery tools can locate anything.

If the data on the drive is irreplaceable and not backed up there are companies available that can recover data from seemingly impossible situations but of course they charge accordingly.

On a brighter note - I have seen drives that make really bad noises recovered after a complete wipe and a re-format or three - it's rare but worth a try - If this is possible I would not use the drive for anything important after this type of failure
