Sata Pci controller card for windows seven

Hi , i have read on some forums that some sata pci controller cards are not supported by windows seven, so my question is ,
Q- Does anyone know which type or brand of sata pci cotroller card is supported by windows seven?

PCI cards? You are aware that these only support legacy SATA-150 standards... so I doubt anyone has built one for a few years now, nevermind making a Windows 7 compliant card!

Baloney! (Bologna) There are PCI cards made that are SATA-300 standard.

For example:
Newegg.com - PROMISE FastTrak TX2300 PCI SATA II Cost-effective Controllers Card - Controllers / RAID Cards
There is a Vista driver on the website that should work under Windows 7.

I'm using this card now because I needed RAID capability that was not on the motherboard.

I would highly recommend upgrading the computer rather than doing this, but it's your call.

I'm using the 3 port version of the XFX Revo 64 card. I don't use it for RAID, I only got it to add some extra SATA ports to my PC as my motherboard only has 4. It works fine with Windows 7, as the drivers are installed directly off the card as soon as you boot up, so compatibility with using the actual card isn't a problem as you can configure RAID setups at boot up as well.

Only problem is, the software to manage your setups in your OS are no longer supported and won't work with Vista/Windows 7.

Gee, yeah, if you want to recommend a card at an enormous price tag that quite probably surpasses the cost of the motherboard in question since it's clearly a little aged...

PCI SATA cards that meet SATA-II standards are unusual. 99% of SATA-II cards use the PCiE interface, for performance reasons - which are perfectly obvious given the difference in PCI > PCiE architecture.

I have a Syba SATA-II/RAID PCiE card from an old build still kicking around somewhere, and from memory I seem to recall that it cost around as little as $10 as opposed to the $72 you were recommending

The original poster was asking about PCI cards, not PCI-E.

I was responding to what you said. See above where you say they don't exist.

I also said I didn't recommend it, due to cost. You can certainly buy a motherboard with the capability built-in. I got the PCI card for a client machine where I needed to add RAID capability where there was none, and $73 was a cost-effective solution.

There is now a W7 driver available for this on the Promise website. I have it and it works.

BUT

I still can't get my RAID 1 array to talk to W7 Home premium.

I orignally had the array on an ABit NF8V socket 754 mobo but that died: fried by the PSU I suspect, so I decided to replace with something a tad more modern:
Antec Basiq 550W modular PSU
ASRock K10N78 mobo
Phenom 9850BE that was surplus following the death of another mobo
2GB OCZ DDR2-1066
80GB Boot drive
2x 500GB WD caviar blue in the RAID array

In Disk Management I can see the drive, but as soon as I try to assign a drive letter I get an error message about drive manager not being up to date which suggests refreshing or restating drive manager - or rebooting. None of those works.

Using Diskpart in a command window I can again see the raid drive but can't mount it as a volume. I get a message that the comand is not supported with this version of windows.

Does anyone know the solution to my problem? IS there a solution?
