Have a new build with a Corsair HX 650 (superb device from every respect) and need to connect two 120 extra fans.

Now I don't want to us the two foot long SATA to Molex cable because it would untidy if not hazardous lying around in the case.

I can get a SATA to Molex adaptor then plug a fan lead (with a splitter) into it to drive the two fans from that one adaptor and I cannot find out if the SATA outlet will drive the two 120 fans.

Will I have enough grunt from the one SATA outlet to drive the two fans as the SATA cables for the drives I can see can have up to four drives on one cable if one so wished.

Have contacted Corsair and to cut a very long story short - am none the wiser.


Otherwise it means using two SATA outlets hence double the other components to do what I want to do.

I have been able to power sometimes 4 HDs & 2 - 80mm case fans from daisy chaining Y-splitters. I would think the 120mm fans would draw less than HDs.

What is your PSU rated at ?

Thanks for that mate just worked out one SATA had drive is approx 24 watts so I can work it out from there then find the output rating per SATA socket and well see how the fans fair.

I think your 650w should be fine. I just did a calc with 4 HDs, 1 video card 16gb ram, 2- 120 fans, etc needed 332w minimum :)

Yeh mate just done a quick calc too on those fans (0.3 A) and I'm only looking at 3.6 watts - 5 watts tops for each fan and if those SATA outlets can't handle that well I be a bit surprised eh? lol!!
