is there any way to save my apps so I can easily install them when I go to Windows 7 in October for a clean install?

My Computer

OS
Windows 7
What ive been doing for the past few months is to install W7 from a SD card. Ive been using a bootable 16GB card and just replacing the windows folders with the latest leaked ones when ive got them (stopped at 7600 of course).
I also have a folder that i put my most used apps in. FF3, ESET, Newsleecher, my bookmarks, Lightroom 2, Office 2003 etc. I update the apps when new versions are released.
It works for me and its a lot quicker than installing form CD's/DVD's.
I even plan to do this when i get my HP copy in Oct.

If your using applications that are updated fairly regularly it would be better to reinstall them in October because there are bound to be further updates between now and then.

Is that SD or SDHC ?

SDHC class 6.

While i agree with swarfega, the fact that im using these apps now and downloading updates for them when updates become available i figured i might as well keep them all up to date on the SD card. That will save having to download updates in Oct.

Not to be rude, but you should refer to it as SDHC, not SD.

I think I've read that SDHC cards are not compatible with SD card readers...

What difference does it make if its on a SD or SDHC anyway? I used to have it all on a 2GB SD card but then ran out of room so got a bigger card. It still works the same way.
I take your point though but i guess im just too lazy ;-)

All my "SD" slots on all my PC's and Netbook are all compatible with SDHC, even though they dont have SDHC written on them.
I suppose technically if it reads a SDHC card then it must be a SDHC reader.

Ah, no, that's not what im saying.
You cant move them over AFAIK. My posts were about having all the installers for the programs handy.
With a clean install you will have to re install them all again.

I've been doing the same thing as the "SDHC" guy. I use an 8GB flash drive. It's very nice. You can install and get all your apps running in 20 min.

20 min...sounds great...can you give me the details of how to do it? Can I use my external hard drive in place of a flash drive?

Some are, depending on age, firmware versions, ect...

I have a 16Gb U3 I use to install Windows...
It's nice =)
