Saving a changed image

Here is the sequence of events.
1 - I open a folder where some images are stored.
2 - I change an image.
3 - I "Save As" with a new name.

Here's where the problem occurs.
If I forget to check where the image goes, it is put into a folder named for me, in some obscure location. This what I hate about WIN 7.
I want the new image to be put into the folder where it came from.
How can I do that without having to look up in the address box and change it?
I want the default to be the originating folder.

Use the program's "Open" function instead of going directly into the folder via WinExplorer (I assume you drag&drop files from the folder into whichever program you use to edit images)

I use several, but the default, when I open an image is IRFANVIEW.

I don't know what you mean by "going directly into the folder via WinExplorer" (whatever that is).
If I understand correctly you want me to open my editing program first, then find the folder I want, then open the image?

Going back to your original problem. Most higher end image editors do what you want, ie save to the folder where the original file is stored. Irfanview does not. It selects the folder you last used to store he new file. But then Irfanview is what is says "A viewer". Selecting the folder where you want the new image stored becomes a habit with practice! Mostly I need to save the new image to a different folder to the original that is stored in my archive. The new file goes to the relevant folder to what the image is for. ie web publication etc.

It's much more than "A viewer". It has lossless rotation, bulk re-size, etc., etc.

I agree, but when I'm trying to get fire photos sent for a Press Release at 3 or 4 AM, I seldom think about it.
