I have an SSD as my OS drive and HDD as a storage drive. If I setup any program to save downloaded files to my storage HDD (specifically the program Newsleecher for Usenet downloading) and allowing it to extract the downloaded rar files into the same storage HDD, would the files still "go through" the SSD before finally saving/extracting to the HDD?
Shouldn't be a problem. I also change the path of the download folder in windows explorer by right clicking the folder/properties & changing the path to the HDD. Then edit other programs to the new path.

I've got a similar setup and I use Usenet and RAR files.
I use GrabIt rather than Newsleecher.
I download from Usenet to a mechanical hard drive.
Grabit puts my subscribed Usenet group caches on my SSD, but I don't think downloaded RAR files have any direct contact with my SSD. I use 7-zip to unzip the RAR files and 7-zip is installed on my SSD, so the SSD is involved in the extraction.
You've given me an idea--I might see what I can do to put the group caches on a mechanical drive.
