Scam artists working over time.

Here's yet another e-mail I've received tonight trying to steal my information. It threatens that my automated bank deposits may be at risk or blocked if I don't take action. It's supposedly from the FDIC (FDIC: Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation). Note however that the FDIC is an insurer of banks and deals with them, not you. They insure that if a bank goes belly up, you get your money. They don't contact individuals concerning their banking accounts or deposits. That's not their role! - FDIC Insurance - How FDIC Insurance Works. That said...

Dear customer,

In order to reduce the number of cases of fraud and scams, we have adopted a new security system. In this connection all your account ACH and WIRE transactions will be blocked until you set up the required updates.. In order to rehabilitate your account, it is necessary that you install a special security software. Please use the link (link removed) below and follow the instructions to proceed with the installation.

We apologize for causing you troubles by this measure.
If you need any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Clearly a scam. Notice the verbiage... rehabilitate your account. Really??? :huh:

Please make sure your loved ones don't get scammed like this, especially those not so savvy. Ex: the young and elderly. If they have any questions, they can call their bank, or the company/business handling their automatic deposits. No legitimate company is going to ask you to install some piece of software without explaining what it is and what it does.

I didn't even look because I knew it was a scam but here you go...

The first part looks Russian to me, but...

Thats a common Russian name : translates to Biryukov in English.

I get this kind of stuff myself and simply delete it, but the sad part is that there must be some that fall for a scam like this, or it wouldn't be happening.

Yeah I've been deleting them too but over the past few months I've gotten 4 or 5 of them.

Anyway there's always going to 1 or 2 who fall for this kind of stuff but that's why you have to educate those around you. Especially if you have kids.

Those cons go by the old adage that if you through enough **** at the wall sooner or later some will stick. If they send out enough times some will fall for it.
