Hello my new friend

When I get to the MSE install - call me silly - I am not too sure which one to install. I have a Sony VAIO YPCYB16KG AMD Dual Core Processor E-350 1.6 GHz 2GB Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. Hard Disk Drive 320 GB.

When there are two choices - I am a femaile - I dont know which one to choose - may do both.

I used to work at a computer place and got a great deal on Norton - are you saying that my three year renewal is crap and I should use MSE instead?

I get mixed opinions on what is the best antivirus software. I used to work at HN before I got sick. Cheap software and games.

I should know most things - but they operate ship anchors in the office - so you don't get any up skilling.

Thanks for the easy to folllllloow instructions - better than the Programs and Features function indeed. May pay and see how much the renewal is after the trail period.

Thanks mate.....
Yep as Mitchell says the bottom one - sorry should have been a bit clearer.

Look if you are happy with Norton then stay with it myself I don't like it after using it years ago and finding it quite ineffective and these days the reviews are not good but as I said the choice is yours. What you should not do is have more than one security program on the one machine at any one time - they do and will conflict with each other.

So just choose what you want - if it were me I would go with MSE and ditch the Norton but see my comments below as well if you want to go that way it can be changed again very easily.

Just for the record if you want a good paid for the I have run Kaspersky for the last four years and it has grown into a really well respected program and the reviews are just fantastic. If and only if you want and can afford it Kaspersky is the go and also if you go that way I have access to a great config for it.

But like I say go with what you want but only one AV on ok?

The Revo by the way you don't need the paid for it only gives you very little more than what the free one does and support - something I have never had the need for.

I didn't see any on call scanners in your programs list and there are two that you will find very handy to have both are free and good at what they do.
SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!

Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer
another that is handy too is
AdwCleaner Download < download from bleeping computer this is not used as much as the other two though.

Any more queries just post:)

Thank you for your detailed response. I really do appreciate it.

I totally agree with you with Norton - but I think may have to stick with it. That will my money down the drain. I must admit there are too many to choose from.

I have included a screen shot - I have Malware already installed and I run it regulary.

I am glad that I reached out. Some great ideas for a person that has one brain cell

Thats no problem Melissa just remember when it is up for renewal you can get some good free stuff and again if you are still ok for a paid for then there will be plenty of advice on that too.

But personally I would stay away from Norton, McAfee, AVG, and Trend as paid fors. Again a lot regarding security depends on your browsing habits and how you deal with emails.

One other thing you need to stay away from is anything that tells you it can keep the registry in order or scan the machine for faults in fact anything that sounds too good to be true. If in doubt - ask in here.

I did see you have a lot of Apple stuff in the Programs and Features and I would be wary of anything Apple. Myself I will not have it on any of my machines and have removed a lot for friends whose children / teens have messed up their machines with all the clutter.
Another thing is the bloatware that most laptop manufacturers put on their machine it is nearly all not necessary and can be got rid of.
My laptops I have replaced the had drives with SSD's and installed just the 7 OS and it makes such a difference to loading up on boot.

Don't forget to go through that Optimise tutorial it really will make a lot of difference.

If you want any more thoughts on what you want to get rid of just post a shot of the Programs and Features and we can advise from there.:)

Plus keep us up to speed on how you are going I am always available when not asleep LOL!!

I unfortunately have an IPhone - so I have it hooked up with ITunes. Something I wish I never had to do.

I also have an old Windows Mobile Device - that is why I have those type of programs on here - I tried transferring my numbers etc from one device to another.

I ended up loosing a lot of information trying to sync. It was an old work mobile. No place could retrieve from .vcf and .csv format.

I will be deleting the Windows Mobile program for good now. I have to end the partnership first.

With regards to Apple - it asks for Quicktime to be your default program etc. I gather I just said 'yes' afraid that I was going to loose data.

I also have some Windows programs that look like they are in another language - so I have not touched them either.

Thank you for your assistance.

I have been on Google and some forums where all you get is recommendations on such programs that you should run - it scans your computer and then installs toolbars and then tells you how many problems you have and please can I have your credit details.

I guess I am a little naive - I hope that the people get a kick out of gaining people's money that way.

I got into University today - so I really do require my computer to run faster and I will take on board what has been said on here.

I best to say this has been solved or this will be longest ever issue on the forum.

I have seen my parents that remove the shortcuts then think that the program is removed - I feel much better in this instance

No problems Melissa and good luck with the uni. If you want an alternative to the iPhone you could try the Telstra Elite wireless device I use it like right now when I am away from home and for $150 per year is quite good value

https://www.telstra.com.au/online-s...elstra elite pre-paid mobile wi fi_e#/prepaid < mine is the MF60 model and don't be tempted into doing the monthly pre paid they run out at the very wrong moments - the only way to go is the $150 per year deal:)

Look don't be worried that you post so much on here it is not an issue and if you want to message instead of posting you can always click on a members Avatar and then click on "Send message" under the picture if there is one and you can pick either a private or visitor message.:)
