Scan Through Shared Printer

Hey guys,

Does anyone know if you can use the Windows 7 Windows Fax and Scan with a shared printer? I got my computer to print via the shared printer, pero when I attempt to preform a "New Scan," it says no scanner is attached to my computer. Any insight?

A shared printer is a printer not a scanner so I am thinking it is not possible. Generally scanner functions are not available over the network even for large all-in-one business type machines.

An option is im assuming it has a similar setup i have.
Scanner/printer connected via usb to another computer.
You can set the default scan location to a shared file, map that drive on you computer.Press the scan icon on your scanner, and it scans into the shared file.
then you just pull it from the file on your machine.
