Scanned Documents to be able to edit

I am using Windows 7 and want to get into a program that has scanned document. I work for a healthcare setting and transfer that scanned item to my electronic medical record? Is there a way rather than retyping. It will not allow me to copy and paste. I am operating with dual monitors. Any help?

I assume those scanned docs are in .jpg or .png format. if you have Windowes Office, put them into OneNote. Then right click on it and click on "Copy text from Picture". That puts the text on the clipboard as editable text which you can paste into a Word or Wordpad document.

I do not have windows office/ onenote. I have windows 7

Windows Office is a component of Windows 7 that you have to buy ( http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/en_US/pd/productID.236555900/categoryID.50726300 ). But if you do not have that one, you could look for another OCR program on the web. But as far as I know, for any good one you have to pay too. I got a free version when I bought an HP printer/scanner last year. It is good.
