I upgraded from xp to windows 7, i had a problem with sound but have fixed it now. I also have a problem with my scanner. I have a pixma mp830. When I try and open up the program I get a message that says the scanner driver supported by this software is not installed, install it then retry. I have been onto the canon website and installed the new driver but I still keep getting the same message. With all the problems I keep having after upgrading I am beginning to think I was better off with xp. Can someone pleaaaaaaaaaaaase help.

Hi there

Two options here

My preference -- You've got XP (or had) so create an XP Virtual machine - use vmware player (FREE) to create a SMALL (512 KB will be enough) XP Virtual machine.

Your scanner will run just fine and the overhead is minimal -- I've even run an XP virtual machine on one of those small netbooks without a problem:D

Another one is to install "XP Mode" -- I tend not to like this but your preference. You do need W7 PRO or higher for this -- it won't work on HOME PREMIUM.

Don't rush out and get a new scanner -- if your hardware is perfectly OK then continue using it.

Incidentally if you still have a running physical XP machine you can download the vmware converter to create an XP VM from your physical machine - otherwise look in the Virtualisation section for information on creating and running Virtual Machines.

It's not as difficult as it sounds and is very useful.

Cheers
