Scrambled Windows Logo When Installing Windows 7

Hi guys.. really need your help on this one as I'm stumped!

I recently formatted my hard drive after having some blue screen issued with Windows 7, after it has been running fine for years. After formatting I was not able to use the Windows 7 Upgrade disc. I decided to install an old copy of XP to be sure I was not having any hardware issues and it is running perfectly.

I know i can't upgrade directly from XP and have to do a clean install. When trying to install from XP i get the message;

"This installation disc isn't compatible with your version of windows. To upgrade, you need the correct installation disc. For more information, check your computers system information. To install a new copy of Windows, restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc and then select custom (advanced)."

The problem is when i boot from the CD I don get the option to install from the disc. It begins by saying 'Windows is loading files...' and then the Starting Windows logo completely scrambles and wont go any further.

Any ideas why this is? And what i can do to get Windows 7 to install?

Reset the BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS
In BIOS setup set SATA controller to AHCI mode to try install, then IDE mode if necessary

Try wiping the HD: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation
Test the HD with maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, which can also wipe the HD afterwards.

Remove all but 2gb of RAM to try install. Test you RAM: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

If the issue persists, do you have a video card? Try reinstalling it, defaulting in between to onboard graphics if you have it to try install.
