To give a bit of a background - I had to change the mothboard of my system last month because of an incident of burnt PSU

Coming to the current situation - since the last few weeks, I have noticed that when I am viewing a video on fullscreen mode, I would often hear a system alert sound, like the one you get when you plug and unplug in a pendrive. It doesn't occur always though.

I immediately check the events viewer to see if it has logged anything, but no errors/ warning show up there that could describe what happened at that time.

Moreover, the screen often turns black for a couple of seconds and comes back to normal. Sometimes before it comes back to normal, I could see my screen changing to a much lower resolution and then back to the original one.

Again, nothing related to graphics or monitor in the event viewer.

My system specs:-

AMD FX - 6100 CPU
Asus M5A78L-M-USB3
AMD Radeon HD 5450 GPU
Corsair Vengance - 4GB x 2
CM B500 PSU
Corsair MX-100 - 256 GB SSD
Seagate - 7200 RPM - 500 GB
Seagate - 7200 RPM - 160 GB

This didn't start happening following a clean install, btw.

I have searched for updates to my graphic drivers, but found no new updates.

The monitor is quite old though - 6-7 yrs I guess.

What could be happening here?

Many thanks

Hi,

Looks like maybe the monitor is old, Try using another moniter and see if it works . If it works means that maybe the old monitor is the Problem . Maybe also you have Screen Saver on , change it to off if on.

I hope your problem get fixed

Thanks for your suggestion guys

Just to let you know, I am now getting these events in the Admin Logs

The driver \Driver\monitor failed to load for the device DISPLAY\GSM448D\5&4c40ed&0&UID768.
The driver \Driver\monitor failed to load for the device DISPLAY\Default_Monitor\5&4c40ed&0&UID768.

Does these indicate a problem with the GPU or the monitor?

Many thanks

Hello probuddha.

Have you already tried updating the graphics card drivers or the monitors drivers?

The graphics card drivers you can update at AMD here:

AMD Support

For the monitor you need to enter the Device Manager like this:

1. Click Start
2. and then click Control Panel
3. Click Performance and Maintenance
4. and then click System
5. On the Hardware tab
6. click Device Manager

You should by now see something like this:

Windows-XP-Device-Manager.JPG

Expand the Monitors menu and right click on the monitor that is listed and select Update Driver.

Hopefully this will set you on the right course forward!

Cheers, Boris :)

That sound could be a cable loose like not connected properly.
Also check on the monitor if there is any adjustment panel.

The sound is similar to my problem.
My USB port seem to be getting wider &or bigger.
Or my USB cable is getting smaller &or over-used.
Once i touch the cable, that Sound appear.
Meaning to it go remove and then re-insert the USB port /cable.
I give up and let it be.

If nothing else damaged or not working properly, then ignore it as the monitor may not too happy!!
