screen goes dark after using for several hours

hi all, i use my computer for 5-6 hours and lately i lose the video connection ie the screen turn black. rebooting fixes it at least for a while, but in a short time its black again. today i turn the box on and no video at all, i tried changing the vga cable to no avail. thanks in advance

It is possible your video card or monitor is failing. Two options: 1. borrow another monitor to test 2. borrow a video card to test.
