I'm pretty stumped here, this first happened after I was playing fallout 3 for a couple hours on my laptop and restarted the computer. On restart, after the "starting windows" screen I got a BSOD with bug check string SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION bug check code 0x0000003b..

After a couple times restarting and fishing around in safe mode, the BSOD is just replaced by a black screen. The keys and wireless work because the wifi light is on, and I can use the keys with my memory to turn the PC off even though I cant see anything...

I tried uninstalling graphics drivers with DDU in safe mode and I can boot in with windows basic, until I reinstall my drivers and restart the computer and I get the black screen again...

Might be worth mentioning I can swap hard drives with another HP notebook that share the same SATA connector. And they have no issues inter-operating...right now I am typing this from the computer that has the graphics issue, but with the HDD from the other notebook I don't use. It installed and runs all the drivers with no issues. And vice versa with the HDD in the other notebook

To be clear, you are claiming the Windows Install on SATA HD #1 is only messing up on System #1, but works fine on System #2, but at the same time System #2's HD works fine with System #1?

That eliminates a lot and points to: RAM likely suspect, get a MEMTEST CD and run it on System #1, you can find that info here in tutorials.

THANKS more often than not, the computer doesn't last 2 mins in memtest without just switching off. No errors, No log off screen screen, the computer just goes dead. I replaced the powerjack cable(from power inlet to mobo little cable) thinking it might be PSU related and I thought it fixed that problem. Had no more shutdowns in BIOS/memtest/safe mode/anything non OS related, and was even got as far as reinstalling windows...until I got about 3/4 of the way through a huge windows update and the computer slowed to an absolute crawl..it took 20 minutes for it shut down and I didn't get to finish the updates. On start up again it got stuck on 32% configuring windows and just switched off by itself..restarted and same thing at 32% just switched off...I'm going to try some new RAM hopefully it fixes it.
