Hello. I recently having this problem with my computer. It randomly locks up, mostly few minutes after it boots up and a loud screech sound comes from the speakers. I thought it was something wrong with something i installed so i deleted the old partition and trying to install a new window 7 but it locks up during installation on the "installing features". Now I am stuck where i can not even boot up my computer. I am thinking there is something wrong with my RAM or hard drive. What should i do?

I recommend you starting with a memory diagnostics.
Luckuly for us we have a nice member already made a nice guide on how to test RAM.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html
I suggest method 1 and 2 whichever is more convinient for you.

The memory should be tested a minumum of 2 hours and a total of 12 hours or more recommended.
If you do get memory erros continue into part 3 of the guide.

Lets do 1 step at a time

I just ran SeaTool in the ultimate boot cd, and it loaded until 21 percent and the screen locked up. Now running memtest86+. Does this mean that the harddrive is broken?

I have tested memTest86 for over an hour and 30 minutes. It passed test 1, still going. I think there is something wrong with my hard drive. Bad sectors maybe? Is there any software to fix these bad sectors so i would not have to replace it.

Bad blocks on your HDD can not be fix. I have heard of ways to workaround it but, i would suggest just sending your HDD back if still under warranty or buy a new one.

Otherwise Low Level Format is your only option, more information here How Do I Low-Level Format a SATA or ATA (IDE) Hard Drive?

Before actually starting the process please ask away, do not take this assignment lightly. Any and all data that was originally on your HDD will be unrecoverable afterwards.

I stopped it once it got to test 3 on memtest86. I shall run it again overnight.
For seatool, first time i ran it, it just locked up my computer. Then i did it again and it say i have passed long and short test.

Right now I have window 7 fully installed on the hard drive right now. I tried playing some 2D games and it was fine for an hour or so. Right when i thought my computer was fixed, it just automatically restarted when i was trying to install some program. I have left my computer on over night last night running SeaTool and it did not lock up. SeaTool was still running on my computer when i woke up this morning.

I have checked over the internet trying to figure out what can cause a computer to lock up/restart. It said its either its CMO battery, powersupply unit, ram, or hard drive. I was thinking it might be hard drive but i need confirmation.

Okay. I was not doing anything but all of a sudden my computer just locked up and a looping "BURR" sound came out of my speakers. I had to hard reset by pressing power button to turn it off.
What does this indicate?

How are you running the seagate tools? Are you running it while loaded into Windows 7? Or via boot live cd/usb?

Just because the Seagate locked up the first time doesn't mean it was HDD related.

I want to know how many hours the RAM has been running for? I think this is a pass.

If you can run seagate tools without loading into windows? please do so, this is an extreme crucial test, HDD failure is known for causing cvery similar problems.
Once we can rule out HDD we move on.

I sadly do not deal with blue screens, if you do get blue screens please follow the guide we can not help you unless you follow the instructions properly.

You have a 0x124 hardware bugcheck. If the system is still under warranty, I would recommend sending it in to have diagnostic tests done and any bad hardware replaced.
   Warning
Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. :warn:WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

For your hardware stop 0x124 crash, read through http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/35349-stop-0x124-what-means-what-try.html and use the following hardware checks to supplement that link.

  • If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

  • Monitor temperatures during the following tests.
Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures.

  • Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:
    1. Shut down and turn off your computer.
    2. Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
    3. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
    4. Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

Remember to read closely through http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/35349-stop-0x124-what-means-what-try.html for the crash.

If you continue to have crashes, please follow the http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html to provide us with the crash reports.

chris1neji may have additional instructions for checking the hard disk(s).
