Solved Screen saver and Display shut off randomly failing to work

At the end of my rope. Up until 2 weeks ago my desktop worked perfectly, screensaver would kick in, then after the specified time the display would shut off.

Now sometimes the screensaver works, maybe 20% of the time. But the display shuts off less than 10% of the time when the screensaver works.

Only change was to update the Nvidia drivers to 391.35 and World of Tanks was updated. Windows updates are all up to date.

System is Core i7-3770 @ 3.4 GHz, 16 GB ram, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. No wireless mouse or keyboard, that seemed to be the cause of many problems when I Googled for answers.

Any ideas about what to try?

I suggest you go back to the previous version of the Nvidia drivers. If you don't know what that version was, just try an older version of the driver.

I did a clean install of the previous Nvidia drivers (391.24) and the Screensaver appears to be working, and then a few minutes later the video switches off. OK, only tested once, but that's a good sign.

If it starts acting weird again, will respond.

Bad thing is my in game framerate took a small hit- seems like it's only 80-90 fps vs 120-135.
