My screen just turns off after 4 seconds and the only way to get the display back up is to turn it off and on. I've checked all the cords. It was working fine a minute ago and never done this before. What could it be?

most likely a capacitor blew. if you can manage, take off the back casing and check the capacitors. most common.

depends on the value, if it is a newer LED screen I would personally fix it. SIZE/LED OR LCD/ MAKE everyone has a right to their own opinion but there are cheap brands that last long, but you would be one of the lucky where the majority last a year or 2 and then people just get a new one because they don't know any better. take it to a local computer repair shop and they should fix it cheaper then buying a new monitor. if u want to do a repair yourself, disassemble and ebay the board #s and replace the board that appears damaged. ( if u cannot sodder )

otherwise if u have another computer to plug into that screen to check that your current computers videocard/or onboard video didn't go out.

I think it was the screen, because it started getting a red patch about a week ago. Anyway, already tossed it outside. The screens like 5+ years old.
