Scrolling Issues

The only way I can scroll is to hold the right button down on the vert slider and drag the curser. Release the button and scrolling stops. The right hand space on the touch pad doesn't scroll. Tried to change settings for the mouse but any attempt to change settings causes the window to stop responding. Message via task manager sez "windows common shell DII not responding". Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks. BTW I did search but didn't find anything applicable.

Did you you try uninstalling/reinstalling mice in device manager?

Make a system restore point first.

I would suggest looking to see if you've a synaptics touchpad menu. It should show up as an option in Control Panel, but I'm at my PC not laptop, so I can't look.

Can you elaborate?
What do you mean by "set point?"

Should have said system restore point. After trying several methods, I created a system restore point and executed system restore. Scrolling now OK! Thanks all for your help and patience

Yes, I'm new to Win 7 myself so I'm not sure if one can make a System Restore point using home premium... seems odd to me though.
I'm using a Win 7 Ultimate
D.

I would suggest looking to see if you've a synaptics touchpad menu. It should show up as an option in Control Panel, but I'm at my PC not laptop, so I can't look.

I would follow up with WebMattR's suggestion regarding the Synaptics options. I have an HP Pavillion also, and have solved all of my touchpad/mouse issues with the myriad of Synaptics options and customizations. In addition to the "scrolling" options, there are others that seem to affect the scrolling ease and speed. I suggest you take a look at all of the options --- you might be surprised at how great you can make your touchpad and mouse work!

Right click your Desktop to open Personalize and select: Mouse Pointers
Go to: Button configuration
Devices: Synaptics TouchPad
Pointers:
Pointer Options:
Motion: Select a pointer speed: Put slider at the fastest point. (This technically controls the mouse buttons, but makes also touchpad feel faster.)
Check: Enhance pointer precision
Device Settings: Select: Settings
Double-click on each item in the tree, to show all customization options:
Double-click: Virtual Scrolling
Long Distance Scrolling
Check: Enable Edge Motion when scrolling
Scrolling Speed: Start with setting at the slowest option and try it. You can increase it to whatever you find works best.
Scrolling selection: Scroll item under pointer
Double-click:Pointer Motion
Edge Motion: Perform Edge Motion when pointing and dragging
Check: Control speed with finger pressure
Edge Motion Speed: Medium slow (or whatever you require)
Double-click: Sensitivity
Palm Check: Put close to Minimum. (If mouse gets erratic, increase toward Maximum. If mouse is not responsive to certain clicks, decrease toward Minimum.)
Touch Sensitivity: Light Touch – all the way toward Light Touch
Once you've finished, you may have to re-boot to see the changes.
