This problem exists in both my intel MB Q66 machine and my ASUS P5QC MB - Q9550 machine. Both can dual boot into xp, vista, and Windows 7 (32 bit on Q66 and 64 on Q9550) and both have the problem with a Lexar media multi-card reader.

Windows 7 Advisor sees everything as compatible and Lexar reports the multi card reader as Vista compatible. The problem is Vista and 7 see the 2 gig SD card as not formatted and only 964 MB if you try to format it. The camera then reformats it if you actually format it with 7. The card is formatted FAT by the camera.

Plugging in the camera allows the card to be read in all systems. Booting XP or even Loading "XPmode virtual PC" allows the card to be read in the reader so clearly it appears to be a Vista and Windows 7 problem with the reader.

Haven't found a compatibility list for SD card readers yet but I imagine there are some that are compatible. Just don't want to buy another and have the same problem.

Found a Lexarmedia chat and got the response "USB 2.0 multicard Reader (RW018 rev d) is not compatible with Windows 7 operating system". So, nevermind...
