This is a used Toshiba laptop I got a month ago. The previous owner said he never used the SD card slot. I know why, because it's not working. When I slide any SD card in, the light comes on for 1 second and then comes off. The card is not recognized. Needless to say, I know the cards are good because they work everywhere else, including a USB card reader I have.

I checked Device manager and I don't see a problem. I believe the SD card reader is the "USB Mass Storage Device"?

I ran troubleshooting and it found that there is a problem with PnP devices and an "unknown device doesn't have a driver". It didn't find a solution or the driver.

I went to the Toshiba site and downloaded a couple of card reader driver versions.
Can someone please tell me the sequence, I uninstall, reboot, install new driver?

Thanks!

There is a program called AIDA that you can download from here:

EVEREST Ultimate Edition - PC Diagnostics | Lavalys.com

Run it and under Windows Devices look for unknown devices. Click on the unknown device and it will tell you what the device is, probably the SD Card reader. Download the drivers for it from Toshiba and install.
