Hello shawnzee,

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Not sure what you mean. I don't get any auto complete in either Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer or FireFox. I get a drop down list of suggestions. I don't know of any way to turn it off.

Hello shawnzee, welcome to Se7en Forums!

I could be wrong, but I don't believe that can be deleted; short of using the registry. I would like to know if it's possible myself, if you find a way please post back with the info.

Hello Shawnzee...

I searched a bit and still I can't find where these MRU lists are stored.

However , I found that it only keeps the last 3 search strings.

So if you want a way to temporarily get rid of your searches,
type 3 different non-existent searches , 1 each time, and it will keep the last 3 of those, instead of your real ones. It doesn't keep more than 3.

Meanwhile, I'll keep looking for a real solution, cause it's a interesting matter of privacy...

Hey shawnzee... You gave me work at home!

I found your registry key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\WordWheelQuery

Delete everything in this key (not the key WordWheelQuery itself, only what it contains on the right) and your auto-find-what-you-typed list is gone.

I'm now looking for a way to permanently disable it so it doesn't keep track

Surely thats the "RUN" box.?

Hi WYSIWYG

Lokks like it could be but the little Magnifying Glass to the right of the search box gives it away.;)
I haven't even noticed that it had an MRU list yet, I guess I just haven't used it enough to notice.

Blazing...
Hi there,
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but has there been anything further on this as my searching of this forum still has not turned up a way to disable autocomplete of previous (history) searches in Win7?
I have noticed that the registry key mentioned previously HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\WordWheelQuery
is filling up with my past file searches, not just limiting to 3 as suggested (although only 3 are ever displayed as suggestions while you type). I really think there should be a way to disable the storage and display of past file searches on my computer for privacy reasons.
Thoughts?
