Installed jzip (then uninstalled) bandoo a horrid little application disguised as leering smiley faces has installed itself on my computer. No one asked for this it was a sneak action and I am very careful about the extra crap that sometimes comes with freebies.

A websearch indicates that 2 years ago you could find the install location, no longer true. Add remove apps and even my beloved revo uninstaller cannot find this little bitch. Run search cannot find bandoo.exe. There are only ads for uninstallers in place of real advice as to how to get rid of this thing.

How is it I cant find this thing?
Any help appreciated.

Yes, I believe Bandoo is malware, virus, etc. Here is a list of steps to follow. You will have to do them manually. bandoo Removal Tool

In my sig are links to MalwareBytes and Super AntiSpyware which may do it too. Download, update definitions, and run full scans with each.

Bandoo adds smileys to instant messenger programs, Yahoo, MSN, AIM, Windows Live, etc. That may be why you can't find it.

jZip also can add toolbars to your browser too. If you want a replcement for Winzip, try 7Zip, it works and adds nothing, but read the install when you do install it and unclick unwanted options.

Britton30 Thanks very much for your reply. Those are just uninstallers though and use the bandoo problem to push the product. The first thing they suggest is locating the app, er yeah. If bandoo cannot be located it cannot be removed. There is also no history of install anywhere that I can find. This is truely a sneaky and nasty trick.

A hard disk search for bandoo.exe brings up nothing as does a scan with updated spybot search and destroy, but I know I have it on my machine. Normally I would do a restore but that isnt possible atm.

Did you do the other steps I suggested? I'm trying to help you.
From the link I posted:
Performing the below steps will help you uninstall bandoo from your computer most of the time.
1. Click on Start and then Control Panel
2. Double click on Add/Remove Programs and then locate bandoo in the programs list.
3. Click Remove or Changebutton to begin the uninstall process.
Next, you need to:
1) Start button and select Run.
2) Type “regedit” in the command box and press Enter
3) Then expand the HKEY LOCAL MACHINE, plus next to SOFTWARE. Here, you will see all the programs locate on your computer. And locate whether there are related entries to bandoo. If so, directly right click it to select “Delete” to remove them.
4) Then expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USER and perform the same above steps.
The above steps help you to delete the related registry entries of bandoo from your computer. But before, please do remember to make a backup of the Windows registry: Registry / Export Registry, save it on your Desktop or somewhere else. And do not modify Windows registry as you like if you have no knowledge on computers. If this is the case for you, perform the below steps to force uninstall bandoo from your computer.

Britton30 hi and thanks for the help, I guess its super frustrating is all. Also I am missing something so if I put it here we may see where I am going wrong.

1. Click on Start and then Control Panel
2. Double click on Add/Remove Programs and then locate bandoo in the programs list.
3. Click Remove or Changebutton to begin the uninstall process.

Bandoo is not listed in add remove apps, it is not listed by my revo uninstaller. It cannot be found if I dont know what the exe is called and or where it lives.

Bandoo is not listed in the registry. It cannot be found by this method.

1. Download Best Uninstall Tool.
2.Install the uninstall tool by following the installation wizard.
3 Launch it and then click on “Force Uninstall” tab.
4. Locate the folder of bandoo and then click “Next”.
5. Follow the on-screen steps to finish the uninstall process.

Didnt do it because I believe the information is not up to date. To use the uninstaller I have to find the folder, see problem outlined above.

Malwarebytes found nothing. Superantispyware found cookies which are gone now.

Thanks for your patience,
Cheers

Thanks I think I got it fixed. I am going to run the scannow fix you posted anyhow.

I have been building my site in wordpress lately and trying out plugins and whatnot. I have been on the web quite a bit so I an not sure it was jzip that got me infected. Two strange things happened. The only messaging app I have: skype, opened a popup with crap on it. The opening of a pop was probably bandoo's way of remaining active so it could not be classed as junk in about a weeks time or something. Then my firefox browser informed me it was not listed as my standard browser, would I like to etc. The browser crashed on classifying bookmarks.

I uninstalled firefox and cleaned leftover files.
I uninstalled skype and cleaned leftover files.
I checked my startup apps (it wasnt there).
I ran ccleaner.
Clean install of Firefox, which is running 100% better.

Bandoo has a website with no support area or service. Their software is installed without your permission (I unchecked every extra and it was listed no where). I do not trust any company that does not supply an uninstaller or method for cleaning out their software. The software is installed using a method that makes it very difficult to trace. Download sites have reviews that scream DO NOT INSTALL by reviewers, but these are in small print at the bottom of the page so I am guessing people are making money out of spreading this useless annoyance.

May the fleas of a thousand elephants infest the people who make bandoo. I am sure it is a curse they will understand.

Thanks again for your help and the links.

LOL! Glad to hear you found a solution buddy. Bandoo is definitely not good software, in helping you I found many people verifying it is malware.
