Search function in W7 x64 not finding "within file" content

Hi

I have W7 Ultimate x64, the drives are indexed and I have all folder search options set to "Always search file names and contents" and "Include system directories" and "include compressed files" but search is not finding content I know to be present.

For example text in Word Docs and content in Zip files are often not found, usually not.

How do I set up Search so it actually searches "within contents" like it does in XP, which may be slower but at least it works.

Thanks

Daniel

Given that there does not seem to be a fix for this, is there a program I can use that will search "within contents" like it does in XP?

thanks

Daniel

What was your specific search string/command?

Do you have .doc and .zip files set up for having their CONTENT indexed via Control Panel > Indexing Options?

Hi

yes I do, all file types are checked. .doc and .zip were used by me as examples.

Search command is simply a word that is copied and pasted from the document I used in a test to fix the problem.

Cheers

I've really been liking FileSearchEX. Windows 7 search is powerful, you just have to know so much about the command line.

I can never trust w7 search. This one works very well: Agent Ransack

Oh yeah, I should have suggested that one too. I've been leaning towards FileSearchEX of late because of the simpler interface. Personal thing I guess.

And thanks for the FileSearchEX link. That one brings back the memories of days long gone by when windows search was failsafe, quick and easy.
