Search in start, open .doc and UAC

Hi, My friend has an hp laptop with win7 home premium 64bit. I installed ms office 2000 on. When I installed it I clicked on compatibility tab and ran in xp sp3 mode and also after install I have set to run in that mode also.

Word etc. seem to run fine. The problem is if he searches for a file from the start menu and clicks to open the file UAC pops up and asks for permission and then when Word opens it errors with "there was a problem sending the command to the progam".

If he opens Word and does file open the same file opens with no problem. Any ideas?

Should Word even need to run elevated? Also he can do the same thing with an excel file and it opens fine.

There is also the problem of when trying to open from the search on the start menu it gives the error and doesn't open it.
