Search problems

I have an e-machines with Windows 7 Home Premium.

There may be no answers to my questions, but one never knows, so I remain hopeful.

1. Why is the desktop in "my" folder? I hate it!

2. When I search for a file in order to move it into another folder, I can't see where it is. If I drag it into a folder, it's only a link. I want the original in the new folder.

3. The search function is terrible.
Example: There are 4 Libraries that I know of; documents, videos, music and pictures. If I search "LIBRARY" why don't I get ANY libraries? See screen shot below.

4. What happens if I delete all those dumb libraries? I want things where I want them, not in libraries.

Welcome to the forum,

First, libraries just point to the actual location of what ever is in them, they don't

actually store anything, you can add many locations to your library so that one

library can access data from all over your computer, which is very handy.

I get the same result when I type library in search that you do.

Here's some info on libraries,

Windows 7 Features: Libraries

As for deleting them, no need to, if you don't want to use them here's a

couple tutorials to look at, just remove the locations in the libraries.

Thanks, but I have no idea what a "Context Menu" is. The illustration in that tutorial does not show the window that comes up when I do a search.
In that search list I can not copy a file, I can only drag it to another place. Then it is just a link. I want to find the original and move it or copy it in the normal way.
It was a simple thing to do in Windows 98, but apparently simple is no longer an option.

Using that tutorial, when you right click an object this is a context menu and the choices you get.

You may have misunderstood my question. I'm talking about a file or an image that comes up when I type a title into the SEARCH box. The Context Menu you show does not come up. Try it.

You must not have full control of that object, unless you didn't add the entry to the registry correctly as listed in the tutorial.

I was reluctant to do the download, etc. Now that I finally did it, it seems to have done the job.
Thanks very much for your help (and persistence).
